That’s one great burger!

So, this post is coming at you a few weeks late, because I was really busy planning and getting ready for a trip to my parents…not an easy thing during these Covid-19 times.

I want to tell you about an amazing lunch I had one day this summer. If you are ever in the area, I highly recommend that you stop in and give them a try. You won’t regret it.

The Victorian Monkey, kitchen and social club…

located on Kingston Road in Scarborough, Ontario just happened to be open for lunch as I was passing by on my bike. I haven’t been there since BC…(Before Covid)…and figured what the heck, I’m hungry and they have a patio. Perfect!

I was asked if I would like to sit inside or out and since I am still very cautious about Covid-19,  I decided the outdoors was the place I wanted to be. I am totally a people watcher and this way I could be nosy…err…umm…observant and watch the city passing by. The only sad part about that decision was that I wouldn’t get to check out the Victorian decor that the interior of the place is filled with. (You really should see it for yourself! It’s quirky, delightful and totally unique.)

I sat on the street side “patio”. I could almost reach out and touch cars if I really wanted to, and let me tell you…I enjoyed the best lunch I’ve had in a while.

A very lovely lady brought me the food and drink menus and it took me literally forever to decide what I wanted to eat. (OK, maybe not literally “forever”,  but a really long time.) Everything sounded great, it was so hard to pick just one thing. Anyway, once I settled on the Backyard Burger, I decided what the heck, I’m gonna have a beer. Now, I am really not much of a beer drinker, so I picked out one that sounded interesting. The menu said it was an IPA called Skeleton Crew Knucklebone with citrus and caramel tones…sure sounded like something I could possibly like.

I placed my order and the beer came first.

It was wonderfully iced and really refreshing after my long bike ride. Like I said before, I am not much of a beer drinker. I tend to just try something new and see if I like it. Well, I did like this one quite a bit. I know it’s an India Pale Ale…because it says so on the can…hahaha. The description on the back of the can told me that what I was drinking was “Exploding with tropical fruits and beautiful aromatics. The full body and light sweetness carry all the bold flavours to the finish line.” All I can say is that it was a great beer!

Pretty soon the food arrived…

When it was placed on the table in front of me, I couldn’t wait to dig in. It looked and smelled absolutely delicious!

I tried a french fry first, just because that’s how I roll. Hahah. I am something of a french fry connoisseur and what I figure is if the fries are great, I can eat them all up first because they don’t usually reheat well the next day. And what a fry it was! Perfect…cooked to a crispy perfection on the outside with a soft potatoey inside. Exactly how I liked them!

The burger was next. I flipped the top bun with the tomato, pickle and onions onto the burger and grabbed it with both hands…yes folks, the burger was big enough that I needed both hands to bite into that sucker! I bit into this hot, juicy Barnyard Burger and savored the combination of flavours. The patty was topped with perfectly cooked smoked bacon and the house three cheese blend, all set off with a BBQ aioli sauce. Scrumptious….my mouth is watering again just thinking about it!

Here is a close up…just to tease you:

Seeing as it was only mid-day and I had been a bit of a piggy and ate every last one of those amazing french fries, I truly couldn’t finish my burger, but I did manage to put half of it down my belly before I had to call it quits. If I ate any more, I would have to summon a tow truck to haul me and my bicycle home…for sure.

I asked for a take-out container and packed away the second half of my burger to bring home to save for lunch the next day. I then sang my praises of the food, paid the bill and packed the leftovers in my bike basket to head for home. It was really glad I made the decision to stop there that day!

Just a side note in case you were wondering…I was able to make it home without falling into a food coma. hahaha. And the burger didn’t last until lunch the next day. By dinner time, many, many hours later, I took that tantalizing burger out of the fridge, popped it in the microwave and gobbled it up for my dinner. MmmMMmm….good!

Seriously…check them out!
