Maple Buttercream Frosting

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 4 oz of cream cheese, softened
  • 1/8 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1-2 tsp maple extract
  • 1/2 tbsp brown sugar
  • Squirt of honey
  • 2-4 cups of powdered sugar
  • 1 tbsp heavy cream (35% whipping cream)
  • Optional: if the frosting is too sweet add 1/2 tsp salt

Directions:

  1. Using an electric mixer, combine the butter and cream cheese by beating until light and fluffy.
  2. Add maple syrup, vanilla, maple extract, brown sugar, and honey until the brown sugar is no longer grainy.
  3. Add powdered sugar 1/2 cup at a time, until you are happy with the texture.
  4. If frosting is too sweet, add salt and beat.
  5. Add heavy cream and continue to beat until the frosting is fluffy.
  6. Frost cooled cupcakes and add bacon garnish if making Maple Bacon Cupcakes.
