Ingredients

  • 4-5 Mars Bars , or similar type of bar
  • ½ cup butter or margarine
  • 3 cups Rice Crispy cereal
  • extra butter or margarine for greasing pan

Topping

  • 1 bag milk chocolate chips (270 gram bag)

Instructions

  • Generously grease an 8×8 or 9×9 square pan with extra butter. (Use the smaller size if you want thicker bars.)
  • Melt the bars and the butter in a small, non stick sauce pan, stirring continuously until the sauce is smooth and thick.
  • Combine the cereal and the sauce in a large mixing bowl, stirring until all the cereal has been coated with sauce.
  • Scoop the mixture into the greased pan and pat down and smooth out. Put in fridge to chill for about half an hour before you start the topping.
  • For the topping, in a small, non stick sauce pan, melt the chocolate chips over very low heat (simmer), stirring continuously. Remove from heat as soon as the chips have melted and no lumps are left. (If you leave on the heat too long, the chocolate will have a burnt taste.) Spread melted chips over the chilled base.Put back into the fridge until the topping sets.
  • Once the topping sets, these should be cut into desired size squares and stored in a sealed container in the fridge. The squares get really hard when refrigerated, so they are best left out at room temperature for a short while before serving.

Notes

If you are having difficulty cutting them, leave the pan at room temperature until they soften up just a bit. Or as long as the chocolate topping is still hard, you can loosen the sides of the pan and turn it out onto a cutting board before cutting.
