Tabitha (Tay) Champagne – November’s Feature Artist

Tabitha (Tay) Champagne

Musician, Singer/Songwriter

Who is Tabitha (Tay) Champagne?

Tabitha or Tay, as she is known by her friends, is an up and coming Canadian singer/song writer who also plays acoustic guitar and piano. She was born in Ajax, Ontario and now resides in Kitchener, Ontario with her fiancé Brian, four cats, eight birds and their dog Bella.

When Tay is not writing, singing or making music videos, you will find her working as an animal care specialist. She does Canine Training and got her diploma in Veterinarian Assistant from Stratford Career Institute.

How did Tay get started in music?

From a very young age, around five or six years old, Tay was already performing for her family. She would put on her own shows by circling around the coffee table and singing for her dad. Her brother mentioned that she liked to do a rendition of Ariel’s song from “The Little Mermaid”. As she got a bit older, around twelve and thirteen, Tay finally took to the stage. She and her friends started lip syncing and dancing to the Spice Girls music at the pub where her mother worked. The girls performed there once a week for about a year. It was this period in her life when she finally realized that she had a passion for music! Her mother sang as well, when running her Karaoke business, and Tay would sometimes sing with her.

When asked if she formally studied music, Tay replied ” My father taught me the seven main chords in guitar and I learned the rest on my own.

Who inspires Tay’s music?

When asked who inspires her music style, Tay says that Avril Lavigne is top on the list, but closely followed by Shania Twain and Michelle Branch. If she had to pin down a style, Tay says she tends to go in the Pop Music/Folk direction.

It took several years of convincing from her brother, Dallas and sister Katey, but Tay finally decided to post her music.

Below, I have included a few videos.

Original Songs by Tay

Most of Tay’s writing comes from past experiences; she writes what she feels and that’s how she gets through her experiences.

I had a chance to listen to a few original songs, composed, written and sung by Tay and was totally impressed. I can even say that they moved me. There’s definitely a bright future in the cards for her.

Check out Tay’s Social Media links to discover more about her and experience more of her music!

Where does Tay’s musical path lead?

“I just want to be able to make someone feel better, by listening to my music and being able to relate to it! If it doesn’t go more then just YouTube I will be just as happy. My music has always been a coping thing for me. It’s my passion and I would never want it to feel like a job. So I guess my straight up answer would be that I want to see my music change lives now and in the future!

Not that long ago, Tay was asked if her music could be featured on a YouTube video. Of course, she said yes. She told me “The feeling is incredible when people like your music enough to want to use it for their own stuff. Never give up on your dreams. If you want it bad enough they will come true!”

Other than the year long “Spice Girl” gig that Tay and her friends had going on, there haven’t been any other “live” performances…yet. However, Tay does have several videos out there on Social Media. (See links posted above.) And rumor has it that there might be a live performance in the future!

And this is a great segue into why I chose Tabitha (Tay) Champagne as my feature artist for the month of November!

Why am I featuring Tay this month?

A few weeks ago, my sister sent me two mp.3 files of someone singing the Canadian and US national anthems. She asked me to listen to them and let her know what I thought. So I listened, and my response was “She’s better than a lot of the singers I have heard during the NHL games.” Then I asked why she wanted my opinion. She told me that she was looking for a singer to perform the National Anthems for their baseball league’s huge tournament next year and she really liked this person’s singing. My response…”Sign her up!”

When I found out who “this person” was, I did a little digging myself and found some more of her music. I was really impressed by her original songs and loved her voice. Now I am a Tay fan!
